Alloy Plate - ASTM
A 514 Standard specification for
High-Yield-Strength, Quenched and Tempered Alloy Steel
First issued in 1964
This specification covers quenched and tempered alloy steel
plates of structural quality in thickness of 6 in. and under.
The low carbon content of this grade allows it to be used in
welded structures; suitable welding procedures for the grade
and intended use are required.
This grade must be made to a fine grain practice and shall be
killed
General requirements for delivery
Material shall conform to the requirements of ASTM A 6.
Chemical Requirements
This specification allows for fourteen different grades, each
with a defined maximum thickness. The commercial market today
has gravitated to four primary grades, each offering the least
expensive chemistry for the thickness range covered.

Single values are maximums. Subject to product analysis tolerances
in ASTM A 6.
Tensile Requirements (plate
only)

*Adjustments to elongation requirements may
apply depending on plate width. These values are for plates
96” wide
as rolled.
